Remove "Start back up" option in file explorer

Hello,

In the latest release of Windows Insider Home Preview (I have an option everywhere I go in file explorer to "Start Back Up", clicking on it leads me to the onedrive dialogue to back up folders. This is incredibly annoying and I cannot find out how to disable it, even though all my backup features are off.

How can I disable this?

I was able to get rid of the button like this:

  1. Open RegEdit
  2. Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StorageProvider\OneDrive
  3. Remove or rename the key StorageProviderKnownFolderSyncInfoSourceFactory
  4. Restart Windows Explorer

    Honestly, the best option at this time is to get a third party File Explorer App (such as the Files App in the Microsoft Store, which recently got a whole host of nice improvements). Filing a report in the Feedback Hub is generally useless. If the press starts making noise about something it will sometimes convince MS to make a change, so that might be worth pursuing. But one of the most effective ways to get change is to simply stop using the feature until it is fixed. For many of us, uninstalling OneDrive isn't a viable option. However one can use an alternative to File Explorer.

    I appreciate all your replies here: it seems that I received this "feature" oddly earlier than others and it is just now starting to be widely rolled out. I'm sure that there is some registry setting to change, but the question is why? Like the above I am also a premium office user and I extensively use OneDrive, but I do not understand for what reason someone would want to back up their desktop and other personal folders to OneDrive, *especially* when you have explicitly chosen not to.

    Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of this is to uninstall OneDrive, and with Microsoft's past record of trying to force it's software into unwilling consumers, I am sure that this option will remain indefinitely, with no option to remove it. :(

    How can I disable this?

    I don't see that in Explorer but I don't use OneDrive, it's disable at startup.

    I guess that'd be one way to avoid it.

    I don't use OneDrive, but the annoying, flashing button still is there.
