SharePoint site doesn't show in home page Frequent Sites or Recent

Normally when we add an user to a group site, the site will show up in Frequent sites or Recent on his/her SharePoint home page website even it is not following.

I added an user as owner of a hub site, she can search and see the hub site from the search column on the top, but this hub site doesn't show in the Recent or Frequent sites, she need to go to the site and click following the site, then it will show in frequent sites. Clearly we don't want to ask every user to click following every time we add new user in the site. Is there any reason why the site doesn't show up properly?

By the way, if we linked a site to the hub site, how could we access the linked site from hub site except search it in hub site search column?

Hi @Johnny Lam ,

To answer your questions:

(1)Per my test, it takes a while to take effect, about 2 hours, not immediately and we can't control when it is displayed since this is a background process.

As a workaround, we could add featured links to the SharePoint start page to make users access the hub site without following it.

(2)Associated sites will automatically share the hub navigation bar after associating , so it is more easier to access the hub site from associated site.

However, for your requirements, it's necessary to Add links for associated sites manually at hub site to make it easier from hub site to associated site.

5 YEARS LATER - Abandon all hope for this to work like it should. This showcases the overall SharePoint Dysfunctionality.
The feature is so broken, it is obviously beyond repair. Microsoft does not care as the prices continue to increase 12% Every year as more wooly sheep just keep signing up.

This behaviour needs to be improved. When setting up a new site, I am unable to immediately copy content to it as the new site is not available as a destination. This makes site creation an unpredictably prolonged activity. NB As I have set up the site, I am both owner and following that site.
