Split from this thread.

Up and running on both PC's.

Sadly, no new Widgets or Spotlight here yet.

Head's up!! If you don't see the new Spotlight

Collection, reboot.

    Hi

Does anyone have same problem like mine?

Spotlight collection was working fine a few days ago, but recently, I turned it off and back on.

Even after turning it on again, the wallpaper didn't change. It remained the default one, and now I am stuck with it.

When I go to Background settings and choose Spotlight collection, nothing happens.

I tried restarting the computer, but that didn't work.

I have filed a feedback regarding this: https://aka.ms/AAf50r9

    Hello,

    Join the club!

I had all kind of different problems with this new feature including the one you are describing.

There are other FBH problem reports on the Spotlight Collection.

See my previous post on how I fixed it on my machines. We'll see if it keeps working now. 🤣

    Hi Johnny,

This may be interesting as a workaround.

I found out that if I create a new user account (Can be a local account) then the Spotlight collection for the Background wallpaper populates pretty quickly (within 30 minutes) after selecting Spotlight.

After I saw that, I deleted the original user account that lost the collection and recreated it, I got back the collection in the next 30 minutes.

From what I saw, this feature seems to work correctly only on newly created user accounts not on accounts that existed before upgrading to 22518. 🤔

    Edit:

As of 12/13/2021 the new User accounts created after updating to 22518, have maintained the Spotlight Collection for the Background picture. We'll see if they last or if it is just another coincidence. 😎

Here is another variation of the menu, this came up after a clean install of 22518.1012 within an hour from the installation the background picture populated and it let me switch a few times then the switch to next picture option just disappeared and only left the 2 options that you see below.

    Image

    Image

All the picture for the Background collection where still in the folder below together with the Windows Spotlight pictures of the Lock Screen.:

And another bug when clicking on one of the options. I did not type anything I just clicked on one of the options available in the menu. Go figure?

    Image

In this case all the pictures for the collection were still in the Windows spotlight Assets folder even when it went back to the default Whitehaven picture and the default menu without any option.

Looks like they have a few bugs to file off. 🤣

    Hi fg,

Confirm same behavior. All was working well, never deleted any pic. Today showing same menu as you now, nothing 🤣

    Hi Johnny,

    Thanks for confirming.

What I noticed was that the Spotlight collection pictures for the background were stored in the same location where Windows Spotlight is storing the Lock Screen pictures. When the Windows Spotlight picture were updated for the Lock Screen the Background collection disappeared.

It looks to me that the 2 features are stepping on each other toes. 😉

When the Background Spotlight Collection was working the pictures were in the location below together with the Lock Screen pictures. They disappeared as soon as the Lock Screen pictures were updated.

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets

    Hi fg,

You are welcome. Good catch on that play my friend. Enjoy your weekend. Still a good start, about time MS implemented this. Been buried deep in OS for almost a year I think, never connected back in W10 Dev. This could be a great feature if MS would implement properly. Needs a timer for slideshow, as in themes, and a back button as well, if it ever works properly.

    Regards,
