    Hello my friend,

I had the same issue in my laptop also....

You can right click on the toolbar and use the touch keyboard to type 2 or 3 alphabets in search bar and then try to type from hardware keyboard of your PC. It should solve this problem. I guess this small bug is there in 21h1 windows update.

This update broke way more than just the start menu.

    The new update has:

    1.  A high percentage chance of breaking the start or search menu.

    2.  You can no longer use the mouse to drag and drop windows between multiple monitors.

    3.  Window display snapping has been completely removed...

    4.  If you have multiple monitors, the OS cannot detect them until your turn them off and back on a few times each.

    5.  Certain apps no longer work (even in compatibility mode), eg, Tidal and a few other music players (that's what I've run into).

My only option after trying everything else was to uninstall the update...  Now that I have removed 21H1, everything is working again.

So truth be told, you're just gonna have to remove this update from any personal devices that you own until they release another update to fix this disgusting number of bugs.  It really is a shame that Microsoft fired their ENTIRE QA department a few years back...  Ever since then, Win10 has been a bug-filled disaster...  Unfortunately, due to this, I can see a whole new operating system becoming the dominant one within the next two to three decades... =(

Same issue, search bar broken the last couple days.

Restarted machine, ran file corruption scan (successfully repaired some files), restarted again, no luck - search window is still broken.

I installed the lastest update on my laptop and my office computer, I have the same issue on both.

The search menu not working well now.

Various issues with Search are being investigated per Eddie (MSFT).
