Problem with games and DirectX in Windows 10 Technical Preview

After installing Windows 10 Technical Preview (a clean install) pretty much 99% of my games stopped working. Most of these I got on Steam, so when I try to play one, it starts the first-time setup, where it tries to install DirectX and then it just returns to desktop. If I try again, it just does the same, but if it's one of the few games which don't install it when running them the first time (i.e., Binding of Isaac), then it has no problems.

After that, I tried to play a couple of relatively new games I got from GoG, but they gave me error messages when trying to install DirectX. They still install, but if I try to play them they don't run because they can't find DirectX-related dlls in the computer.

According to Dxdiag, though, DirectX 11 is installed. Reading forums, it seems to me that most people can play games with no problem with the Tech Preview, but some can't because Windows 10 doesn't recognize their graphic cards, and they have to switch to integrated graphics. I can't do this, as my motherboard doesn't have them, but at least when checking system information it seems that the OS recognizes the card (a Radeon Hd 4870, not exactly cutting edge stuff...), so not sure if it's the same, though it might be, as I tried installing the latest drivers for Windows 7/8 and couldn't. Has anybody had similar problems? And did anyone manage to solve them, and how?

I would suggest you to provide the feedback in the feedback app so that it will be implemented in the future Builds.

    wow, smite and Hearthstone are working correctly here; no problems so far and even working better than with w7! installed directx11 with no problems at all

    Hi,

    You might try downloading and installing DirectX Runtime June 2010....

    This was previously mention by MELERIX, but that link was to a web installer...

    I am providing a link to the same package, except that it is a full download that you install manually after it completes...

    This is a self extracting package. It will extract after double clicking on it so be sure to note the location where you\it extracted.

    Then open the folder and double click DXSETUP.

    Hi! 

    First of all, i'm so happy that i've found this thread. Searched everywhere for people that had the same problems.

    I've tried the following games and all of them experience the same problem with crashing on startup. 

    Conter Strike GO

    Dota 2

    LOL 

    CS GO and Dota 2 just makes a blackscreen then the game crashes. 

    Dota 2 complete crashes but with CS GO, the program still runs in the background i have to end it trough Task Manager. 

    When startng a game match in LOL you get the message 

    I have a feeling that all games are using directX and that's the reason why they are having problems. 

    I've tried running all the games in different compatibility modes like w7, win XP (SP2 and SP3). When running the XP comp mode the game tries to load but fails after the mouse starts showing in Dota 2 and CS GO. 

    I've also tried installing different versions of directX, installed the games from windows safe mode.

    Counter Strike 1.6 that runs on OpenGL has no problems starting. 

    I've updated all the drivers (Graphics) and tried re-installing them. The W10 build is on 9860.

    I really hope that someone figures this out.
