System & reserved files on a secondary drive?

System > Storage > Advance storage settings > Disk & volumes > Disk 1 > Volume name > Properties > View usage

I didn't know about this until now, is this normal? why do we need system & reserved files on a secondary drive?

Copy back a few folders at the time and keep checking to see when those 14GB start showing up in the System files. Then you can isolate which one is causing the problem.

I followed your advise and copying folder by folder does not reproduce the issue.

However, if I copy everthing at once the 14GBs come back. 🤷‍♂️

Good that you could clean it up.

I guess we'll never know what caused the problem in the first place.

Perhaps when you got the BSOD?

Probably when you do a clone you copy over also the problem. 🤣🤣

    Is there either one of these on the D: drive?

    Perhaps not cleared from previous installs?

    Due to the fact that your D drive already has system retention files, it will still be there after you restore the system.

    It shouldn't be like that. The OS should not rely on a secondary drive for System files or System & reserved files. Please read my reasoning on a previous comment.

    Also, I checked that if you check the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" box for virtual memory, it may cause this problem, because virtual memory is automatically allocated to other drives after checking this box.

    Paging file size is managed by Windows for C: drive only.

    Is there any paging on your D: disk?

    On my machines the paging is only on the C: drive, but you have a much smaller C: drive. 😎
