We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

Please keep letting us know what you think!  We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

This is what happened after I upgraded the Windows Technical Preview.  9860.

I kept getting this message whenever I tried to run Skype on my desktop.

Before the upgrade, it was working perfectly alright.    Anyone has had similar problem.

Appreciate your assistance.  Thank you.  Rajan

Uninstall & re-install Skype.  Mine is/was fine but, this is my suggestion for your situation.

    Cheers,

    Drew

Someone in the thread mentioned that updated preview build size is about 2-2.9 Gb. However, it took me roughly 20 minutes to download and install it on relatively slow connection (2 Mbps). Yet, after update I am having hard time with many metro-style settings, for e.g., PC Settings, Windows Update and even the Windows Feedback App itself. Does anyone had the similar problem? Can it be a problem caused by partial download of the build (see second sentence above)? Shall we expect update on this?

This is the error I get when I try to click on PC Settings in Start Menu.

Use zPC Settings.  It's in your All Apps list.  Replaces PC Settings.

    Cheers,

    Drew
