We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview.  We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available.  Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.

If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use.  If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically.  Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.

More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:

  • New notifications through Action Center
  • Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
  • Choose how quickly you receive new builds

Please keep letting us know what you think!  We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

That fixed the missing characters issue.

    Bravo.

It is, however, somewhat strange that a KB had to be installed with the first download of a new preview that seemed to reinstall the entire system.

    Thanks Drew!

    You're welcome.  Kewl it helped.

I want a direct download link to the new preview builds just like the first one on the site or on the windows update App or on the site with the full ISO file or the partial file anyway to be easy to download and install because I cant see the download percentage like that or control it and its disconnecting too maybe you can update the App to handle that either , I got very slow internet connection too

I have just updated my computer and the update made my computer almost unusable. I even had to install Chrome from Google just to be able to browse internet and give this feedback. In IE all pages are missing letters all over the place, and in Modern Apps I have the same issue almost everywere. The search bar in the start meny is showing no letters when I type and the results are missing a lot of letters aswell.

I dont know if this is driver related or something, but I hope I am not the only one having this issue and that you could find a fix.. I will gladly help with more details on this issue if you want.

I am having the exact same issue with IE and most of the apps, I also can't read anything on the feedback page to report this issue. I am currently typing this on my alternate PC or have to use another browser on the system the preview is installed on. I hope this is being read via someone at MS and fix the problem.

I used the manual method: Logged in admin>PCsettings>update&recovery>previewbuilds>clicked check now then install now. download took about twenty minutes. Install took about an hour with numerous restarts. The only problem I had installing build9860 on my Lenovo n580 ideapad was the time zone was incorrect. Just lucky,i guess.
