Clean install of Windows 11 Build 22533.1001 on VMware Player 16.2.2

I downloaded and installed VMware Player 16.2.1 and Installed from the MS Insider ISO 22533.1001 on a Virtual machine.

I used the link below to add TPM, then the installation worked all the way through.

Added this line as suggested in the .vmx file:

managedvm.autoAddVTPM = "software"

Cannot go any further, I don't have a key to activate Windows 11 on VM.

Also, way too slow for my taste on this old laptop.

    The question I have now, how to I preserve the activation if I reinstall VMplayer and create a new Virtual Machine? Is there a VM machine file that can be saved ?

    From Johnny:

    "The files representing the VM's "hardware" for the Windows 10 digital license are the .VMCX .VMGS and .VMRS files, plus an empty folder by the same name as the 3 files"

    edit: you don't have to create a new one, you can clean install the existing one by booting to firmware and pointing to an ISO, just like you'd normally install from USB

    Good morning Sibro, still do not have the new version of VMware installed, thought I pop in as your extensions are off my friend. I never got a chance to narrow this list of 3 files as I suspect the activation is stored in only one of the files. You are correct that you have to use same folder name as the 3 files.

    .nvram

    .vmx

    .vmxf

    Appreciate you and fg working through this. Thanks guys. As a note, if you use a different Host, when VMware asks was this Moved or Copied (default) ensure you use the Move option to retain activation on another Host.

    Was only checking the emails sent when I seen your post. I have to go through this entire thread yet. Hopefully soon. As an update, specialist is concerned with swelled tummy, they going to setup an ultra-sound at hospital to check what's up. With all the covid things going on, no clue when this will happen.

    One more reason I stick to the real boxes. 😉

    Me too, never really got into it until recently despite having a lifetime license.

    Use it for testing once in a while but a VM is too slow on this aging laptop.

    Agree but the problem is the limited functionality of the Player. The Pro version has safeguards called snapshots, you can go back to a previous state without losing anything.

    You can also, clone or backup the guest to a different location and restore it at will on any similar host.

    Still a pretty complicated system to maintain.

    One more reason I stick to the real boxes. 😉
