For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update
The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

Ok, I still have the hibernation issue after installing the firmware "update".
I have also been able to continuously recreate these shutdown episodes. I was actually trying to do a looping 1080p video test for battery life from 100% at 0% brightness. But the moment I go into 0% brightness and cut off the power, the brightness turns to maximum and the video plays for a few seconds, the screen flickers and then the whole computer shuts down and goes dark. The warning in my event log before the shutdown is:
"The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode. The minimum required supported state mask is 0x491f7fffff; got 0x1fffffff. Low Energy peripheral role functionality will not be available."
Edit: I rechecked, it's not hibernating, it's actually going into a sleep state. It's super annoying, because it means you basically cannot view a 1080p video on battery saver settings at low brightness.
can you specify exactly what you are using for the looping video test? that
"should" make it easy for Microsoft to repro since you can recreate 100%. And
for the sake of completeness, which Surface PRO SKU do you have?
(if you give them 100% reproducible step by step instructions and hardware
specs, they should be able to repro in house.. )

I don't know if this is related but I just let my surface pro idle for 30 minutes and it shut down.
I had to press the power button and the black and white windows logo appeared.

it didn't shut down it went into hibernation the event log said boot policy 0x2

there is a event log that says "the system is entering sleep" "sleep reason hibernate from sleep - user away predicted"
So maybe it is supposed to work this way and hibernate. even though its not set up in the power options.

its called Adaptive Hibernation.
I read somewhere that if you don't want it to do this go to settings > system > power and sleep and uncheck
"Save me power when my device knows I'm away."
the only problem no is I got a BSOD I think it said it was related to win32kbase.sys I got this after the firmware update.
