For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

We are having this on both our Surface Pro's. They are both i5 with 8Gb models.

I am also having this problem, I received the new Surface Pro on the day of release but have only used it for about 3 hours since then and this has happened about 5 times.

FWIW I also got my Surface on the day it was released and have used it for 8-10 hours a day, 5 days a week for work (as I have with my SP2, SP3 & SP4).

It has happened to me twice since I got it, 5 times in 3 hrs would be maddening!

If you've only used it for 3 hrs  the factory refresh solution on page 1 may be an ideal solution for you.

Yeah that's a very good point, thanks, definitely won't take me long to get things back in order. I think I can handle re-installing 3 or 4 things. Will do that this evening and feed back whether it cures the problem or not.

It would be nice to hear something official though, just to put everyones mind at easy something like "It is a software issue, we have patched it, it won't happen again" would be nice. I hate it when I take something out the box and its not exactly as expected.

It has happened to me too, several times. On battery only. At least 30 minutes away from power.

    I have an i7, 256GB, 8GB Ram.

It was like it went to sleep. Quick press of the power button and after the Windows logo, back on again.
