For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    I had this problem this morning on a brand new i7. The unit had just be turned on for the day. I used Chrome to lookup a movie review and then launched its trailer. About 20 seconds into the trailer, the unit shut down. I don't see anything obvious in the event viewer, though it's possible I don't know exactly what to look for.

    I pressed the power button and the unit came back to the lock screen. I could hear the trailer playing in the background, however, after I entered my credentials, the lock screen froze and I couldn't do anything with the system except force it to power off and restart.

    My biggest concern: do I return this unit now while the returning is easy, possibly getting another unit with the same problem, or do I wait to see if MS can fix it, possibly going beyond the return date? Please advise.

    Love the unit, please fix the problem :)

    Your biggest concern is the biggest concern we all have in this place! :-)

    I still have 11 days left, if the problem is not solved in this time frame, I will return my Surface Pro. I like it very much, I like the screen, the 3:2 screen ratio, the keyboard, the performances, but I can't use a machine that while I am modifying a Word document with other people keeps hibernating...

    And I cannot keep finding myself in these embarassing situations for another 1-3-6... months waiting for a solution.

    I hope that at least we will have a better idea of the extent of the problem: as I already said, it all depends on how many machines have the problem. If it's just a "few", then trying to get a replacement unit could be a final attempt before giving up.

    Same problem here with Surface Pro m3. Has happened every time I use it on battery power, type cover connected (surface pro 4 version). No pen and bluetooth off. Never had this problem with my surface pro 3. This is very annoying and unacceptable for a device this expensive. All updates installed and I already tried the software repair tool. The event log reports:

    1. The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode.  The minimum required supported state mask is 0x491f7fffff, got 0x1fffffff.  Low Energy peripheral role functionality will not be available.

    1. The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

    {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

     and APPID

    {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}

     to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    Unfortunately I gave in and returned old one for new one.  So far no issues, but it hasn't been that long.  The store staff were fantastic, even though they have not heard of the problem yet.
