For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

Actually the new "signature" version is also called Surface Pro 4 type cover.

At least thats what was written on my new 2017 keyboard box that I purchased from microsoft store in new york.

OK fair enough. Maybe it's the same hardware then.

I was just using the SP for about an hour, worked fine. Then i went and got the Keyboard and Mouse and then it went to hibernate like 30 seconds after I attached it. To be honest i only think it's been doing it when the keyboard attached. Has done it (unexpected hibernate) a handful of times since i purchased it 2 weeks ago. But i only got the keyboard last week and that's when it became a problem.

    Hi Barb,

I'm thinking you're right. While I haven't had any shut down issues since my last attempted fix I don't trust it going forward. And, considering the lack of action on the part of MS, and the fact that the number of people posting the same issue keeps mounting, I think this unit is going back to MS before the 30-day window expires.

It's a bummer though. I really do like the device, it's flexible, light, fast, makes it so much easier lugging it around for work. But, this is unacceptable.

Which is funny. When I had the shutdown issues It happened when I had the keyboard attached as well as when it wasn't. In fact, when I used it in tablet mode with no keyboard it was happening every 10-20 min.
