For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

I have experienced this as well and, of course, it always happens at the worst possible time (e.g., when I'm in the middle of writing an article, legal brief, etc.).  Given how much I paid for the SP and the accessories, this definitely should not happen!  Very frustrating.

Still happening to mine. Stopped doing it for a few days, then did it twice in 5 minutes just now. Really hoping this is a software issue as a hardware exchange is a pain! Might also be of importance, that my battery life is far below expected. I'm getting 5 hours max out of the system even with light usage

Same here.  My random hibernation problem lacks any predictable pattern.  Also glad to see I'm not the only one with shotty battery life.  When I went to the MS store to buy the extended warranty, I asked them what kind of non-replicable vacuum-sealed bubble-wrapped low-power controlled test they used to get a 13-hour battery life claim.  They couldn't answer me.  If I get 6 hours it's a miracle!

    The random hibernation is annoying.

My battery life is ok. I get around 8-9hours out of my Surface.

The 13 hours are like the fuel consumtions mentioned in the manuals of cars. you'll never ever reach them.

Most probably they left it running without any running programs and with display brigthness around 5%...
