For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

if Microsoft doesn't follow up this week you may want to consider returning and

repurchasing (don't exchange as you may get a unit someone else returned).

If you return and repurchase, you get another 30 days for MS to come up with a

fix. And if you don't have the issue on a different unit, then that would seem to point to hardware IMO.

    Hi everyone,

We are aware of a small group of customers reporting a scenario with their new Surface Pro in which the device inadvertently hibernates. We are investigating this issue.

Any idea on a time frame? My Surface Pro just went into hibernation while typing this..... 3rd time this morning.

I have the same model with the same problem. I've tried some of the same fixes you have as well.

On Friday I went into Settings/Power & Sleep and clicked on Additional power settings.

Then, I clicked on Choose what closing the lid does from the left panel. Then, towards the top, clicked on Change settings that are currently unavailable. This shows the options further down the panel as active and you can change them. I clicked off, Turn on fast startup. My thinking is the shutdown issue could be a driver or a problem with the power/sleep software. My understanding is shutting this setting off forces the system to reload drivers when booted. It does take longer to start up but, no biggie.

Since I've done this I haven't had any shutdowns. If this changes I'll post an update.
