For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    For what it's worth.

I went into Power Options and clicked on Chose what closing the lid does from the left tab panel. I deselected Turn on Fast Statrup.

I've tried everything, and so far haven't experienced the hibernation issue. We'll see. Needless to say I shouldn't have to dig this deep out of desperation to find a solution.

    Microsoft fail.

Like you I expect that it isn't a hardware problem, and I appreciate you keeping us posted on the outcome.

I'd be happy to wait a few more weeks if we knew for sure it was going to be fixed with a software, otherwise I might be better to return it during the 30 day window and get a new one.

For me the random Sleep Reason is always: Application API

So is this a hardware problem or is there a firmware fix for this coming out any time soon (before the return deadline)?

    Microsoft,

As you can see by the interest here this is a serious widespread issue.

Many of us only have 12 days left before we can return the product for a refund

Can you advise us if this is a software issue or shall we return our units

My current unit performs well in other regards and I would rather not .  this particular issue is a critical one however as it won't let me use the functionality uninterrupted. computer hibernate three times during a 2 hour movie last night !!
