For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

Might try running the hardware troubleshooter once more before taking it back.  Mine has been running like a champ, but it could be that mileage varies.

On a side note, until now I thought that the new "instant on" feature was flawed or broken.  Most times I pressed the power button I still received the Windows/Surface load screen with the spinner beneath it, before reaching the lock screen.  I am pleased to say that now the device seems to be behaving, my perception has changed.  Perhaps that is a side effect of the problem with it randomly hibernating hard like that, rather than using the standby/sleep mode gracefully as intended.

I don't really know, but I thought I would mention that I thought instant on was broken.  Now when the device goes to sleep properly, it really does seem to wake up instantly.

Everyone, Microsoft has asked the following:

    '

While we investigate this can you make sure everyone has provided feedback via the Feedback Hub?  Tell them to choose the Power and Battery category. '
