For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

did you try running the MSI file from

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55484 ?

when you look at Windows Update history, are there any failed updates?

Had a chat with Microsoft support, and they told me that firmware 233.1763.257.0 can solve the problem.

In the Surface Pro Update History page they say that this firmware has been released on july, but my Surface is stuck with a previous version of the firmware and Windows Update doesn't find the latest version! Well, that's strange...

I have loaded the cumulative updates for my Surface Pro (2017) and rebooted, same problem.

You put the tablet to sleep with the button and it won't wake up again.

The windows logo and the donut appear briefly and then the screen goes blank.

No events in the log other than the shutdown messages from having to hold the power key for 15 seconds.

The device is less than a week old!!

    Hello Bryan,

I initiated this second post about Surface Pro's hibernation issue because the random hibernation problem was not solved. You will find several users who STILL experience the very same hibernation issue despite applying the patch. It is not as frequent as earlier, but it still happens at least once or twice every week.

As far as I understand, this is a bug about Microsoft's "Error Reporting" feature. It is obvious that there are still issues.

This is a serious issue and there are several users like me who are not able to use their tablet in professional meetings because of this defective firmware/application. We cannot have a hardware that is tend to go hibernation when we present in front of 100 people.

I hope Microsoft will address it. So far, it took two months to hear from you and I am a little bit disappointed.

    Best regards,
