For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update
The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

Yes this has happened to me very frequently (2-3x a day). And it's really frustrating because i take tests online through examsoft and it has just turned off in the middle of the test. Had fun explaining that to the professor. Also it causes my applications to all close so i lose all my work. Furthermore, what has been happening recently is that the computer kinda spazzes out when i try to close a window or even sometimes when i open a new tab. All the webpages just cant be clicked and i have to close all the webpages and restart the computer. Extremely frustrated so far.
So my surface pro i7 8gb 256 has been not waking up from sleep from time to time. Actually is shutting itself down. It will reboot. Seems to be random. Sometimes it will wake from sleep, sometimes it will not. Hibernate is turned off and I tried all power settings. Pretty annoying to press the power/sleep button and realize it has turned itself off and all work closed and unsaved. I called windows support last night and they gave me something to try and so far it has worked.
Hold the power button until the unit shuts off. Then hold the power button and the volume up button down when restarting and let it boot into the Surface UEFI menu. Then scroll down and click exit and then restart and voila. The problem has not happened since. The tech told me this procedure does some sort of reset and it has worked for the past two days for me no problems at all. You will actually see the screen do some sort of flicker and tint changes upon startup showing some sort of calibration happening as it enters into windows. Actually I had also noticed that my type cover upon purchase when I closed the lid and reopened the cover the screen would not come back on automatically like it was supposed to do. After this reset procedure that feature is now working as well. Maybe it will solve the issue for others.
My SP just went into hibernation when it was sat there for a few seconds doing nothing. The hardware troubleshooter fix hasn't solved the problem.
I'll try changing the power plan.
Can we have an official fix please?
On the advanced power options if Balanced is locked there's a link towards the top of the panel you can click to unlock the profile so you can make the plan changes. It's a strange setup for sure. The fact you have to wade so deep to find these settings is unfortunate.
EDIT: Since I created a custom power profile I haven't experienced the powering down or shutting off issue. It appears to work on power as well as on battery.
