Surface Pro 2017 turning off or hibernating randomly!!!

For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    Sure, here you go. Entire post copied below:

    Try this as a workaround that should (hopefully) stop the random hibernation / shutdown.  The following will disable hibernation through the command line interface:

    • Start an elevated command prompt (in the search bar on the task bar type "cmd" and right click "command prompt" and select "run as administrator")
    • At the prompt type "powercfg /h /type reduced" (exactly that text without the quotes) - this command actually reduces the size of the hiberfile so that traditional hibernation doesn't happen and it is used only for hiberboot.  Alternately you can turn off hibernation entirely by typing "powercfg /h off"
    • If you used the first command to change to the reduced hiberfile size, you'll get a response showing the new size of the hiberfile.  If you instead turned it off, you won't get any confirmation
    • Close the command prompt window

    This has worked for me for about a day, which is admittedly not enough time to confirm this is a valid workaround, but I figured I'd post this so others can try the same and report back.

    One thing to note - this essentially disables hibernation, so you'll lose some of the power saving benefits you get while hibernating, but standard sleep mode works pretty well on the Surface Pro.  I'm thinking this is better than the Surface Pro randomly shutting down in the middle of what you are doing until Microsoft comes up with a real solution.

    I've included a screen clip of a sleepstudy report over the last 5 days.  You'll notice that over the last 24 hours or so there are no breaks in the line, which indicates my Surface Pro has not shut down or hibernated since I first ran the command.  Over the previous 4 days you'll see a lot of shutdown/hibernation periods (indicated by the line breaks), some of those are random some normal.

    Thanks SnakeJam. You're a life saver man. You're method worked. So far I've had it set to "off" for over 24 hours. No random hibernation. As opposed to my SP hibernating just after 2-3 hours of browsing or playing light games. 

    I'll report here if anything comes up otherwise.

    Just for everyone to know; SnakeJam's 'fix' works like a charm. Do not have a single hibernation event since I used the command (to make the file smaller, didn't shut it off).

    I just purchased a new surface pro i5 265 and this occured several times that suddenly the device turns off and I have to press the power button to bring it alive again! It happened while I was typing a document and others when I was watching videos. With and without the attached keyboard. What is the solution?

    I am also having this problem.

    My Surface Pro screen will go blank while I'm in the middle of working. Pressing the power button will cause the white-on-black windows logo to show for a few seconds, then the log-in screen.

    I have the newest model, pre-ordered and delivered on launch day. Mine is the i5/8/256 version, with the new keyboard.

    This has mostly happened while I've been working with Word, Excel and OneNote. Nothing strenuous!
