For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

This is the fourth surface device that I've ever owned.  I really hope Microsoft figures this out.   I bought this Surface (i5, 8, 256) less than two weeks ago and it's gone into hibernation four times on me.  I could be in the middle of typing something or playing a card game and it just shuts off.   For what Microsoft is charging for this hardware this is a disgrace, there is no excuse for this.

ZDNet posted a followup to their prior article. re; the hibernation issue. The worst part of the article was what MS said when they were contacted by ZDNet for comment.

"Update: A Microsoft spokesperson said the company had nothing more to say beyond the statement from "BryanH" quoted above. The company also is not quantifying beyond "a small group" the number of people affected by this issue."

Meanwhile, I took my original SFP, made an exchange at the MS store. And, I still experience the hibernation issue.

The longer MS waits this thing out, the worse their hardware reputation gets.

This also happens to me too, except I don't lose any work. After turning off on its own I have to press the power button to turn it back on and it shows the black screen with the white windows logo, then it goes to the login page, then after logging back in everything I had open is still there, but it's still quite annoying.

Yep, my new Surface Pro 5 randomly hibernates 1-2 times per day. I don't lose work but it's very frustrating in a client-facing scenario.
