For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    Hi everyone,

We are aware of a small group of customers reporting a scenario with their new Surface Pro in which the device inadvertently hibernates. We are investigating this issue.

Any updates? I returned my i5 Surface Pro a week after I got it because of this problem. Just hibernated randomly on multiple occasions - once while watching a video, another time while midway typing a message on Slack, etc.

Swapped out for a brand new unit and have the same issue!

It's hard to believe that this is only a "small group of customers" especially since this has happened to me with 2 units now.

    Is there an update?

My surface pro (2017) also randomly shuts off. on laptop mode on normal tilt, just browsing the web on Chrome browser. Battery ~60% and the screen randomly turns black, until I restart the surface. My setting indicates that it should be 15 min of inactivity before it goes to hibernation mode.

My New Surface Pro, i5 also goes to sleep in the middle of an activity.  However, this has happened to me randomly; that is, it seems to have nothing to do with my trackpad, Bluetooth or USB.  There seems to be no pattern to this.  It seems only to happen once in a while.  I can be using the tablet and it simply shuts off.  I then need to press the power button and the rotating little circle runs and then all of a sudden I am back in my session.  I guess it is hibernating instead of sleeping.  I purchased the device within the first week they were available.

    Me to.

    Off to John Lewis Tomorrow.

Very sad, loved using it, but the trust has gone.

might buy a pro 4 reduced, sadly lost my pro 4 on train.

Gone back to 5 year old Sony Vaio Z. Suprisingly good.
