For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    I have an answer,

I don't know if it's your answer, but it is an answer to a problem like yours. I would reach ≈7% battery life and the surface 3would power off as if it was a desktop that was suddenly unplugged. I went through updates, re-imaging to no effect. Finally, right before RMA, Microsoft was nice enough to have continued support and recommend a simple step:

Control Panel > Power Settings > Adjust Plan Settings > Advanced Settings

    Now........

    1. I don't remember exactly, but we either switched "low battery" or "critical battery" tab to something that it was not already. ..... try both at once .
    2. restart
    3. change the "xxxxxx battery" setting back to the way it was.....
    4. restart again.
    5. provide feedback.

Microsoft said this was weird and lead me to believe that they have sent replacements 100's or 1000's of times when it wasn't necessary. Trust in the steps they provide.

Trust me.... you try to develop and implement a tablet and OS.......... ;)

Is there already a main/popular feedback item that we should upvote/comment on, or should we all submit separate items? I'm not sure if there is and if my search queries are just not right.

Here is a link to the only one that I found: https://aka.ms/Uttqkk

That link will open feedback hub and go to the feedback item I found.

    Hi Sam,

Opening the type cover won't automatically wake the device. However if you have only recently closed the type cover, pressing any of the keys can wake the device.

I'm having this issue too.  Purchased from MS Australia Online Store, arrived yesterday.  SP2017 i5, 8GB, 256GB w/ new type cover.  Randomly went to sleep five times within 30 minutes whilst watching videos and then researching this very issue - cover attached, dark room.  Also, when I open the type cover the screen doesn't come on, I have to touch the pad or the lock button.  Not sure if it should be doing that.  Will probably swap for a new one shortly.
