For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

This is exactly what mine did, yes.

Can confirm that my system did the same thing. After restarting my computer and running the same troubleshooter, it didn't find any hardware changes. Good thing. I wish I could find out what was installed, though.

After your post I tried this out, about 20 minutes ago.

Settings -> Update & Security -> Troubleshoot -> Hardware and Devices, Run the troubleshooter

The troubleshooter detected that there was a device driver missing, installed it, and prompted to restart the computer.  I could not ascertain exactly what driver it installed.

Following the reboot I haven't experienced an unplanned hibernate/standby.  I need to give it more time and will report back later, but so far so good.

Sure - I would download the update tho and see. I think it's better to try that first and see how it goes.

The fix they suggested was -

    • Open Settings
    • Click on Update & security at the bottom right
    • Click on Troubleshoot on the left hand side.
    • Under Find and fix other problems in the main column, click on Hardware and Devices in the main list
    • Click on Run the troubleshooter
    • Follow the instructions and see if it finds and offers a fix.

    Hope that helps.

I've only had it running a few hours since, so there's no guarantee it's a definite fix.
