For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

Hi! The phenomenon I experienced was hibernation. The surface was able to recover to exactly the same application and state it left off but the Windows Surface logo was displayed after I pressed the power-up button.

FYI - i just updated the firmware and will be watching my device now. Hoping the firmware resolves the issue.

Hi! I just realized notifications about new posts and your reply went to the Spam folder (yikes!). Anyway I just downloaded the firmware update and installed it and now will be watching my surface to see if the problem of random hibernations persists. Hopefuly the firmware update will help.

Many thanks for the hint and link to the firmware!

    Cheers!

Same problem here, it's just going to sleep mode, doesn't matter if the type cover is attached or not...

My 30 days have expired (unfortunately I hardly used it in the first 30 days) so as far as I see there's nothing to do about it?

Are we talking about it randomly going into hibernate or into standby?

Hibernate is when the Surface / Windows spinning cirlce logo appears once the power button is pushed.

Standby is when it turns on onto the Welcome / Login screen straight away after pressing the power button.

If it is the hibernation isssue have you updated the firmware manually?
