This most likely is a Hardware issue. No update, none of the fixes MS has put out works. The built in cooling is not optimal. I once had a dell with this very same issue. The only way I was able to resolve it was to download a program (i8kfan) that allowed
me to set fan speed triggers based upon the temp of the laptop. When the temp reached a critical threshold the program would trigger and the fan would increase in speed. only issue is that this runs the fan constantly as I assume will be needed in the case
of the Surface Pro 4 and 2017 models that have a fan. This is a major issue. Fixes have included reset the surface back to factory default or even worse. Send the unit in for a replacement that will have the same issue. It takes a lot of time to setup a new
primary device. To be working on projects when your surface fails is a miserable experience. saves do not happen in all apps/programs/ the loss of time and data is not acceptable. I do appreciate MS acknowledging this issue but not actually having a fix after
