For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey Everyone,

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update

The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

    Thank you for your answer.

If the issue continues after this, what would you recommend to do? Return the device and swap for another one or wait for a fix that solves it?

    go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55484 and

download and run the MSI file that is offered for download. This will force

    install anything that is missing.

Is the new firmware update (Surface - Firmware - 233.1763.257.0) ?

This is what Windows Update reported was the installed firmware update.

    ""Surface - Firmware - 5/18/2017 12:00:00 AM - 165.0.1.0""

Is this the correct one for the fix? Even though this is installed the Surface Pro shuts down itself.

I had read about the problem but had no problem myself until the update was installed. In my case it doesn't happen suddenly, but I put the computer to sleep and when I go back to use it sometimes it is off, sometimes it is hibernating even though I have hibernate to never go into effect, sometimes it is ok, just sleeping.  So in other words, it is behaving erratically.

    best,
