VPN Client Support

The info page for the new Samsung RT tablet - the ATIV tab - says:

Enterprise Solutions (upon request): Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network), Juniper Junos Pulse VPN, EAS

But the Junos Pulse client is not in the Windows Store - so either Samsung has some exclusive deal with Juniper, or this is a "coming soon" feature.

I'd like an answer. As much as I love the Surface hardware, if I cannot get the last piece of the puzzle I need for work, the Pulse client, and it is available on another vendor's tablet, I'll need to think about switching.

I would really like an answer from Microsoft on this one.

And to re-confirm - the ATIV is a Windows 8 RT tablet, NOT a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

    Before things get out of hand - the Surface RT does not have a TPM chip (so I was told) - a mechanism for providing hardware-level encryption and key generation.

    Some Enterprises implement VPN policies that require a TPM. However, Android phones (and I believe iPhones) do NOT have TPM either, yet support VPN connectivity.

    So while there may be some implementations of remote connectivity that won't work due to the Surface hardware, the lack of a VPN client is really either a matter of MS not exposing the APIs to do it, and/or Cisco and Juniper not building a client.

    As others have said, this is a new tablet and the chances one will be available is high - I hope.

    Enough consumer pressure can move mountains. There is no reason the hardware, or the Windows RT OS would expressly prevent a VPN tunnel from being established, so it's either MS or the SW vendors that need to make this happen.

    Perhaps someone should start and online petition?

    You folks need to keep a bit of perspective on this. The surface has only been out for 3 weeks.

    So to set at least part of the record straight, the surface rt does have VPN support, but it's the regular old ipswc of windows. So this means ipsec, l2tp, pptp. Others are wrapper for either ipsec or SSL. You can use plain vanilla ipsec under windows to connect to junos or Cisco, but you need an it group willing to learn how. It works, but someone needs to know how phase I and II PKI exchange works for ipsec vpn's.

    Returning mine as I type this.  The rep at MS told me that Surface Tablets will NEVER support VPN's.  Only Pro.

    Microsoft?? Is this true, I can't believe in this... 😠

    Windows on ARM architecture (WoA / WindowsRT) does not support installation of third party applications. However, the in-box Windows VPN client is available on WindowsRT (WoA) as well, and is capable of connecting to third party solutions. The 3rd party VPN solutions may need to be configured to allow the connection. Third party VPN vendors own this support.
