VPN Client Support

Do not worry, Microsoft will soon realize the simple math behind the sales figures:

No Cisco and Juniper allowed on the Surface RT (out of greed?) = No sales of RT Surface in large quantities to many large classes of potential buyers (business, sales, corporate, small business...).

Remember, these are classes they thought they had an advantage with in the marketplace (the people who can be tempted to abandon iPads or Androids because of Word, Excel, etc.) or with whome they can regain market share from Apple and Google.... Well, good luck with that without the VPN options the competition has?

If some genius there thinks lacking VPN options on the RT will just blackmail buyers and will translate to more "Pro" Surfaces being sold, they will soon find out (the hard way) that these same classes of users are no fools and can do the math and will either buy iPads (which have Cisco and Juniper VPN support) or go for cheaper/better laptops instead...

Good luck, your best hope is the "pain in the wallet" for Microsoft... Let's not buy RTs until we can have Cisco AnyConnect and Junos Pulse.

This is dead on. I could have sold about 6 of these devices at my office and my wife had up to 9 people interested in her office.  Unfortunately because our devices are not able to vpn 15 people are lost to IPAD 4. What a shame. This is a much better device.

I hope this is just a matter of timing, and that we will see it soon.  I'm sure it took a tremendous effort to get Surface RT to market on time, and some things had to give.  BYOD is now common in many businesses.  If Microsoft wants to truly be competitive in the tablet space, they will need to allow for third party vpn clients.

At this time, please get in contact with your IT department to get the specific values needed to connect to your VPN. Please also note, if your VPN requires a client, it may not support Windows RT. Please get in contact with the client developer (Cisco, Citrix, etc) to see if they have the client available, or are working on creating one.

Per the first post in this thread, a Microsoft competitor's tablet running Windows RT is being issued with Cisco and Juniper clients. This is not an IT issue or a client developer issue, as Samsung has figured out how to implement these popular clients on Windows RT.

My question, and all of our question here is: Why is Microsoft not supporting, on their own operating system, using their hardware, the same clients.

If you have any answers to this specific question (like the release date of VPN support on the Surface), or if you tell us that Samsung is doing some "magic" under the covers that is proprietary so it won't be available on "vanilla" Windows RT, that's fine - at least we know we need to make a decision of Microsoft vs. Samsung if we need these features.

Is that an auto-reply ?? As laid out in this thread Cisco and Juniper WANT to implement a Windows RT solution but Microsoft does not expose the necessary APIs yet. This has to be fixed.
