VPN Client Support

The info page for the new Samsung RT tablet - the ATIV tab - says:

Enterprise Solutions (upon request): Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network), Juniper Junos Pulse VPN, EAS

But the Junos Pulse client is not in the Windows Store - so either Samsung has some exclusive deal with Juniper, or this is a "coming soon" feature.

I'd like an answer. As much as I love the Surface hardware, if I cannot get the last piece of the puzzle I need for work, the Pulse client, and it is available on another vendor's tablet, I'll need to think about switching.

I would really like an answer from Microsoft on this one.

And to re-confirm - the ATIV is a Windows 8 RT tablet, NOT a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

Just because Juniper's VPN now works doesn't mean Cisco's client can work the same way, or has the same requirements from the OS. This may answer the original poster's question about Juniper, but Cisco VPNs are still waiting...

Actually it does - even if the Juniper support doesn't allow for every security option, it at least allows for the most basic capabilities. Cisco could support this as well.

The important thing is, clearly, the Surface RT is capable of supporting encrypted communication.

That said, Cisco and Microsoft are competitors so there may be some jockeying going on here. Wouldn't be the first time.

It is possible Cisco is saying it is on MS because they don't want to enable a competitor's product. Microsoft could also be blocking Cisco for the same reason, but what is more logical?

Block one of the top two secure remote access providers from implementing VPN, thereby impacting the number of tablets sold

    or

Not developing an app for your competitor's tablet to block the tablet from being sold into your client base?

I have no inside knowledge here aside from being in this industry for a LONG time, but with VPNs now clearly supported, the odds are it is Cisco, not Microsoft, that is the blockage here. Unless a Cisco PLM can post details about what they need that MS isn't capable of or giving them... but I haven't seen that since 8.1 SDKs came out.

This is great news indeed, and I think proof that Cisco does not need API access, clearly that is present.

Before I mark as answered - do you know what type of VPN you are using? IPSec or SSL?

Are you using token or card based authentication, or standard username and password?

    Thanks!

Can you make a howto?  I'm not a programmer or a network administrator.  The VPN in Windows 8.1 work differently from what i'm use to.  I'm lost

Official 8.1 is on my Surface and I am happy to report the Juniper VPN works like a charm.  Server address, ie the webpage you go to install the app on a normal desktop, user and pass and right on the network firing up remote desktop to my PC left back at the office.

I do not need a Bay Trail, I'll be getting a Surface 2 for sure. Looking forward to the added battery life and new kickstand and working (or pretending to work) anywhere.
