VPN Client Support

I have failed so far to get the Checkpoint VPN solution working either on my Surface RT... there the amount of settings available in the new Metro VPN UI is pretty limited, and there is little-to-no documentation (understandable... for a little while?) about how to set it up properly.

I assume it "works", but the setup is just not clear yet.

There is a "CheckPointVpnPluginApp.exe" in C:\Windows\vpnplugins, but it won't run from the desktop (requires an appcontainer that isn't available yet? odd?)

Windows RT in the workplace requires VPN as the "killer app" to be viable, in my opinion.  I hope Microsoft is listening and invests properly in getting as many VPN vendors up-and-running by the time 8.1 ships.

It figures.  Cisco wants full control of the firewall and Microsoft say "no" to that.  That is a shame because Cisco is used in a lot of major corporations out there.  That is a big market because it is the most secure in-house system companies can come up with.

I had mentioned this on an earlier post and it is true that Microsoft made no mention of Cisco in regards to VPN support, but I would say to go to the Control Panel and attempt to configure the in-house VPN client for Cisco just for the heck of it.  They may have added the additional utilities and drivers within the Windows 8.1 Preview to do it.

The worst that can happen is that it won't work but worth a try anyhow.

I think a lot of people are expecting "those" branded VPN client programs to be installed and they have meant that the in-house VPN client program will support those connection features.

I tried. Still no Cisco Support. Annoying.

Do you guys see any Cisco love? I'm traveling soon and this will be a boon for me... only Surface, no laptop.

In the video he kinda skirts around the cisco subject.  From what i've heard and read I think there are some issues between cisco and microsoft as to how to implement their vpn (i'm imagining cisco wants to make thier own stuff and not have it built in maybe?).  whatever the problem is i suspect we won't see anything cisco related until official release, if even then.
