VPN Client Support

The info page for the new Samsung RT tablet - the ATIV tab - says:

Enterprise Solutions (upon request): Exchange ActiveSync, On-Device Encryption, Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network), Juniper Junos Pulse VPN, EAS

But the Junos Pulse client is not in the Windows Store - so either Samsung has some exclusive deal with Juniper, or this is a "coming soon" feature.

I'd like an answer. As much as I love the Surface hardware, if I cannot get the last piece of the puzzle I need for work, the Pulse client, and it is available on another vendor's tablet, I'll need to think about switching.

I would really like an answer from Microsoft on this one.

And to re-confirm - the ATIV is a Windows 8 RT tablet, NOT a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

According to this article, Outlook and enhanced VPN options are coming with the 8.1 update. I am not marking this one answered yet because we don't know what the options are but it's promising at least.

if anyone knows more please share. If not we will all be waiting with baited breath for the update.

Well, if you look on the forum here, there are two issues regarding VPN and they outnumber the WiFi issues.

"Somebody" took notice! The APIs for the devs may have been in their hands for few months now. Just keeping everything a secret.

The biggest problem is the RT. It is new and companies are not sure to support it right away or do a "wait and see" approach. That ends up leaving the users high and dry though.

When you get to TechEd, keeping harping about it. It will wake them up and make sure that they don't forget about it in the future.

They didn't make any mention on WiFi issues in 8.1 though. Mine gets online regularly now but a lot of others out there still have a problem.

Who knows, we may find out at the end of next month if they release a beta for the RT as well. I have a desktop at the ready to install the ISO image on it.

I think its going to take a while from the official 8.1 release till devs are utilizing those new APIs and bringing apps to market.

I did get an encouraging message from a Juniper engineer that I know that they are working with Microsoft for VPN solutions, no doubt they helped contribute what is going into 8.1.

Softpedia.com has an article relating to Windows 8 RT 8.1 that is coming out and VPN is brought up. No details on it though on what it will support except more configuration options.

No word if a beta version of RT 8.1 is going to be released at the end of June for sure (there is for the desktop).

They are also adding Bluetooth 4.0 which is a plus and may fix a problem with "pairing" with phones. Just might have a poor mans hotspot capability there.

So, the RT is going to get an upgrade.

I wonder if it is going to go "online" though?
