Bluetooth Issues Since Surface Updates - 5 August 2021

The Bluetooth on my Surface Pro (5th Gen) has not been working properly since the Surface Firmware Updates this morning. I have to restart to get it to work and then it only works properly for about 5 minutes. I have tried rolling back and reinstalling the Marvell driver. Also the Bluetooth troubleshooter doesn’t fix it. Running that troubleshooter causes Bluetooth to completely stop working. Will you please fix this urgently as it is a major issue for me?

I think I might do it if and only if the replacement has an adapter that isn’t a Marvell AVASTAR.

I should’ve said that in my reply. I’m sure I will have the chance to, though.

    Their reply:

"The replacement will be a like for exchange which means you will be getting the same version with same specifications. *We can assure you this will never happen again as everything on your case is properly documented for service center to be aware of what happened to your Surface that way your next Surface is double check for any problems.**We regret to say this Bluetooth issue that you have is already hardware related possibly due to a non working Bluetooth chipset embedded inside your device.*We can still replace your device though it's already out-of-warranty using the paid replacement that comes with a fee."

My reply, though I am pretty sure I already know the answer:

"Thank you. *I will not accept a replacement that is equipped with a Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth radio adapter.**From your reply, it appears that the replacement device will have the Marvell component.*Please confirm or deny."

The replacement fee for my 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 that is out of warranty is $599. I think I will keep my computer and maybe buy something else for the holidays.

And this latest missive from MS Surface Support:

"Thank you for your reply. *We sincerely apologize that that option we provided to you is not the option you preferred.**Please know that it will never be our intention to cause you any kinds of trouble with your device.****We would like to suggest as well a purchase towards a brand new device.****Having a brand new device is an advantage because aside from the 1 year warranty provided you can also get a Microsoft Complete Plan which provides an additional  warranty extension up to 3 years depending on the coverage  that covers any physical damage like crack screens or even liquid damage caused by accidental spills.*Meanwhile, If you were to decide, we would like to know what would be your preferred solution for this case for us to check if there is anything we can do about it."

So, they have thrown in the towel and suggested to me that I buy a new computer. I could spend $599 and replace this computer but I do not trust the Marvell adapter. They did not directly answer my question regarding whether or not the replacement computer has the Marvell BT adapter - but I can connect the dots. They said it was like-for-like.

To the thousands of you worldwide who have this Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth radio adapter problem - it's not fixable. I'm sorry this happened. I love my Surface Book 2 but its functionality is severely diminished w/o BT capability.

Maybe you will be luckier than me by owning a device that is still within warranty.

Is this legal? My Surface Pro 6 has no working Bluetooth since August and I can't use it the way I expected when I purchased it.

I would have never picked a device with no Bluetooth, I would have chosen an Asus .

Imagine if Microsoft sold cars and told its customers: "We can't solve the problem we created, deal with it or get a new car".

    This is not acceptable.

I’m sure their ability to do what they’re doing is embedded in some fine print somewhere.

That said, I’m with you. MS broke my computer, not me.
