Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    Same for me: only 5 updates, and no precision touch device update which is stuck at version 1.2.0.83.

    After installing these updates, these two bugs are still there:

     - pinch to zoom on the touchscreen doesn't work anymore after waking the Surface Book from sleep

     - the surface pen doesn't work when resuming: buttons work but I cannot draw on the screen

    For these two problems, rebooting temporarily fixes the problem. But it's of course not a solution.

    Yes, the driver is available for Surface Book. I see that you tried to manually download the package via the MSI. It appears you may be using the wrong one. You will want to use the SurfaceBook_Win10_16299_1710000_0.msi package. This is the current package that is for the Fall Creators Update (which is OS build 16299). You can stay up to date with when these packages are updated via our Surface Blog for IT Pros page.

    For others, if you are continuing to see an issue after installing the update from Windows Update, please report back on what version of the Intel Precise Touch driver you now have installed [this is found under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager] and confirm that you have completed a restart to finalize the installation.

    I forgot to check build number and take the highest version... I have installed manually right version for FCU and now I'm with 1.2.0.99

    Now... trying to hibernate and wake up for a few days

    Hi there,

    Yesterday, I have downloaded the updates and installed them.

    As writen, it was working fine until the next "go to sleep" mode.

    I've spent my night reading all the posts for that subject.

    I've found that someone has used the manual driver update and pointed the system to a former driver version.

    I did the same and I'm using now version 1.2.70 of the Intel Precision Touch Device.  My SurfaceBook ( first generation i7 512)  went several time on sleep mode and and I haven't yet been facing that issue.

    But I've noticed too that there is a warning sign next to NVIDIA GeForce GPU and as Other, writing this text using Edge is very anoying (lack of reactivity, more when you use back space).

    I hope that feedback could help Other while Microsoft will provide a permanante and official fixe.
