I was given the $500 refurbished option.
Having previously had 2 incidents of swollen batteries, I decided not to throw good money after bad.
Just bought an ASUS....very happy with it.
Won't be going with MS anymore.
Will spread the word.

My Surface Book has also suffered the dreaded swollen battery that has caused the bottom of the keyboard to delaminate. The swollen battery is making my $3,000 Surface Book a dangerous hazard due to the possibility of fire and explosion. After many hours of extreme frustration talking to Microsoft Support, I am so upset. Is there a class action lawsuit for this issue?

I cannot tell you how long or how many customer service reps I had to deal with. Try to get a dedicated person and get their direct contact # so you can get the same rep each time instead of having to explain the situation to a new rep each time. Here is one # I've used.

Hi,
I just finished talking with MS customer support about same issue discussed here (my Surface book's screen is 'separated' from the top). My extended warranty expired Feb 2021, so just few months later on, the screen showed a kind of yellow spot on left side and this Monday when I opened my MS surface book computer, the screen had the three issues as they describe on their website: 'Lifted, separated, or bulging screen'
It did not came to my mind to search for similar issue prior to contact customer support. However, after listening the only solution offered by them for something that sounded to me a little weird, then I did my search to find that I am not the only one with same issue!
And yes, the solution they offered is the same as most of you got: 'because your extended warranty expired, we can provide you with a replacement (same specifications as your Surface) certified re-furnished-surface, full functioning and with a 90 days warranty' 'The cost will be $599 plus all applicable taxes'
They explained that I must pay the $599 fee plus applicable taxes then they will send a pre-paid UPS or FEDEX label via email, so I must ship the damaged devise and when they have received my device, just then they will ship the replacement.
So, if you do not have another computer to continue doing whatever you do for living, then you will be stuck until a new device arrives!
Please, add me to the growing list for a potential class action lawsuit!
I would like to add my name to the list for class action law suit / lithium battery issue.
I have copied conversation with the online chat help desk, photos and video.

This is extremely bad on Microsoft's part. I am an I.T. Service Provider for Small Businesses in Tallahassee, FL and I will most definitely stop recommending any Microsoft Surface products to my clients. If any organization has this amount of issues with any particular model/device they should acknowledge it and do something about it. I have a Surface Book 1 that is now bricked after an update. Started out saying the Digital Signature couldn't be validated at Boot, then proceeded to not enter UEFI with Volume Up + Power. Now the screen won't even come on. HP had an issue years ago with their DV6000 line and I haven't sold an HP Product since. I hope Microsoft feels that saving money on repairing these is worth their reputation and future sales. I guess when you are such a big company it doesn't matter and that is very sad.
