Hey Guy and anyone else with the new SP2,
On the box, there should be a sticker that features the lot #. What lot # do you have? This will give us an idea of which boxes contain the new SP2.

I am not an IT guy. Did Microsoft release a Surface Pro 2.5?
I returned my Surface Pro 2 (v. 256GB) because of the poor performance after the failed12.10.13 firmware update. I recall the SP2 I returned having a i5 4200U processor.
To my surprise, when I checked the System Properties in the Control Panel on my replacement SP2, the processor was upgraded to a i5 4300U @ 1.9Ghz. - 2.5 Ghz.
Perhaps this is old news. Can anyone explain this change or know of any other improvements? Thank you.

Just picked up 2 new SP2 128GB's from Best Buy with the new proc. They both have the following box markings:
LOT NO./
DATE: 1351
MODEL NO.: 1601
UPC codes: 8 85370 65869 9
Hey Paco, I feel this the SAME WAY. Microsoft must be kidding me, a secret upgrade just after 2 months? This is totally unfair to those SP2 users like us, who brought it just 1 or 2 month ago UNDER THE SAME PRICE.

My wife just gifted me a 128GB Surface Pro 2. She got it from bestbuy, because all 3 microsoft sores in my area were sold out. Does anyone know if I could possibly return it and ask for the new upgraded version with the 1.9ghz processor?
There is nothing wrong with my SP2, but it cost almost 1,100 to find out 5 days later there is a quicker one out. I do play games on my surface pro and to me the extra 300ghz makes a huge difference in terms of FPS etc. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Of course you can return it. Have your wife read the return policy and make sure you comply with the requirements. And you can ask for the upgrade but since there is no external way to tell which box has an upgraded processor.
The Surface in either form wont get you a "huge" difference in frames per second to be honest because the GPU is still the same but good luck in whatever you decide.
