Surface Pro 2.5 i5 4300U 1.9 Ghz 2.5 Ghz

I am not an IT guy.  Did Microsoft release a Surface Pro 2.5? 

I returned my Surface Pro 2 (v. 256GB) because of the poor performance after the failed12.10.13 firmware update. I recall the SP2 I returned having a i5 4200U processor. 

To my surprise, when I checked the System Properties in the Control Panel on my replacement SP2, the processor was upgraded to a i5 4300U @ 1.9Ghz. - 2.5 Ghz.

Perhaps this is old news. Can anyone explain this change or know of any other improvements? Thank you.

    As a consumer, how would I know if a Surface Pro 2 device offered by a retailer has the latest upgrade? I have no intention buying the older version..

    Obviously, there is no way to startup the device and check Control Panel/System Before a purchase... But is there any specific serial numer lookout for?

    i5 4200U stays at 2.3 and i5 4300U stays at 2.6. temps level between 73c to 80c.

    My i5 4200U SP2 is 12-15% slower than a friends i5 4300U in video rendering image manipulation and 3d rendering.  The difference is noticeable in gaming as well.  In wow with same settings I get 50 fps he gets 63fps. That is substantial in my book.

    Ok, that's interesting then since my testing shows that the CPU+GPU of the 4300U will get throttled once it reaches 80 degrees Celsius which will prevent it from maintaining its maximal clock speed. If you are seeing a real difference between the 4200U and 4300U SP2 versions, this means that the 4200U is throttling to a lower clock speed than the 4300U.

    Do you think you guys could run the stress tests that I mention above using HeavyLoad with your Task Manager open to see what clock speed the two models end up at after roughly 5 min? If you want to track temperature, I also recommend that you have Core Temp open as well.

    My surface pro 2 with 4200u has no problems turbo boosting to 2.6ghz (at least this is what task manager shows) and it shows in device manager as 1.6ghz to 2.3ghz.

    This is exactly what I'm seeing as well.  300Mhz difference is clock speed translates into negligible increase in FPS.  Like Phil mentions, if you benchmark real world performance for applications and gaming the differences are unperceivable.  My device performs as promised/expected.
