I am not an IT guy.  Did Microsoft release a Surface Pro 2.5? 

I returned my Surface Pro 2 (v. 256GB) because of the poor performance after the failed12.10.13 firmware update. I recall the SP2 I returned having a i5 4200U processor. 

To my surprise, when I checked the System Properties in the Control Panel on my replacement SP2, the processor was upgraded to a i5 4300U @ 1.9Ghz. - 2.5 Ghz.

Perhaps this is old news. Can anyone explain this change or know of any other improvements? Thank you.

    but the price has dropped from 100 €

    now costs 849 € free shipping

    here are 2 years warranty

    Hey guys i went to bestbuy where i bought my surface pro 2 with the old 1.6 processor and they told me they will take mine back and can exchange it. I just hope that that stash they have is the new ones. :)

    Yeah, same here. I exchanged my 4200U from Dec. to a 4300U in Jan. and it also fixed my sleep-wake and battery drain issues. The SP2, when it completely works, is an amazing device. I recommend that everyone do a warranty exchange if they are suffering from the battery drain issue since it doesn't seem like a fix is forthcoming any time soon.

    I bought a 4200U unit in November 2013.  It was very good, but after all the complaints I read on the internet, I noticed that the battery didn't last very long on standby; something like 30 hours.  I'm not sure if this was after the infamous December firmware update and never checked.  This problem seemed similar but less severe than the ones many people have been complaining about.

    I returned the unit to Best Buy and picked up a new one at the Microsoft Store in Toronto.  It's from Lot 1352 and has the 4300U processor.  I've only had it for 1 day, but the battery meter did not budge one bit after 12 hours of standby time today.

    As a consumer, how would I know if a Surface Pro 2 device offered by a retailer has the latest upgrade? I have no intention buying the older version..

    Obviously, there is no way to startup the device and check Control Panel/System Before a purchase... But is there any specific serial numer lookout for? 

    As far as we can tell, there's a lot number on the side of the box on a sticker. The lot number appears to be a combination of the year and the week number (eg. 1349 is 2013, week 49). Anything below lot 1350 is the 4200U. 1350 is a mixed lot and your mileage may vary. Lot 1351 seems very safe. I've seen maybe 2 posts indicating that 1352 might also be a mixed lot. No reports yet but, presumably, a hypothetical lot 1401 would be safe.
