Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT.  The speakers also lack any kind of bass.  They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding.  When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.

I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE.  I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).

Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.  This is most likely a software/driver issue.  Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

    I really feel this is just a sound card driver issue , anything NVIDIA writes as a driver still has to be certified by MS before release. I have had problems like this in the past with sound cards in PC's the kick I am having is the speaker enhancement  error on headphones and Surface speakers. When you disable it per the prompt then sound volume on speakers is better headphones also not like it should be but better . Seems like there is alot of this same happening all over on Surface 2, I  wouldn't doubt they all have the issue just some are reading the prompt doing what it says and ignoring it others are not or not playing music or videos.

    I returned mine for a warranty claim earlier this week. The sound was just terrible. I'm currently using my old Surface RT, and the sound is infinitely better. I can actually watch video and play games and music now!

    Hopefully my Surface 2 is returned with working sound or I get a replacement device that works correctly.

    In the screen that has everything grayed out except driver details click on the 'General' tab and then click on 'change settings' it will bring up the driver tab but not grayed out.

    Any ideas why my driver settings are greyed out? How do you log on as admin, and why aren't I already??

    ohh right.... this is the first audio update that actually would install on my s2 for some reason ...I was hoping that it would fixed everything... wishful thinking I guess. At least they are working on it  😄

    Exactly, the first sound driver that got installed. So it may no be perfect but means that they're working.
