Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have a video of the mouse re I continuously move the mouse in a circle

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

A fix for this issue is now available through Windows Update. Please review the Surface Book 3 Update History page.

Jared_Butler, you have described the situation perfectly!  I am experiencing the exact same behavior on my work-issued SB3, and have tried for weeks to find a solution or work-around, but to no avail.  I have a USB audio interface which appears to work fine, it's just my keyboard and mouse (HID devices) which are having issues (Microsoft Sculpt keyboard & Logitech mouse).  I would switch to Bluetooth devices but I really like these ones and would much prefer to keep them if possible.

Thank you for describing your experience in such detail.  Hopefully Microsoft will at least acknowledge this is a problem so we don't have to be in the dark about it, or think it is an isolated incident with our machines.  I have already gone thru two work machines, countless hours troubleshooting, and several frustrating conversations with my IT department trying to get to the bottom of it.  All of which took important resources away from work projects and time I could have spent with my family.  I'm definitely not recommending this to anyone else until the problem gets resolved, and my company has put a halt on ordering more.

An official respond to this thread or post on the SB3 Update History page would be wonderful!  Come on Microsoft, don't treat your customers with disrespect by ignoring them.  If you really want to build a base in laptop computers this silence will only hurt you in the long run.

Well. All this describe the same situation as me. I even have an external audio interface too that works fine.

Today I packed the device and tomorrow I will drop it off it in my nearest UPS office.

I'm very sad to return it as I really loved this thing. There's nothing like this. No one with the 15' screen and so portable. That XPS 2-in-1 or Spectres (Yogas and others are 16:9 screens and that is a big no-no) are 13.x' and 1.3 Kg with the keyboard hanging back there in tablet mode.

This marvel is 0.8 Kg of pure power in tablet format. And the touch feel, and materials. All delighful.

I feel that technology isn't there yet. Kind of like the car 'Aston Martin Lagonda' back in the eighties. To much advanced and untested technology. Not a single car worked as it meant to work. People trapped inside as the electronic doors wont open, and so.

And there is not only the USB HID issue. There are reportings of throttling under heavy load, screen issues... I've even had some screen black flickering sometimes.

Or the front camera not able to turn itself on at start. Or the incapacitiy of connect to my two DVI starndard monitors.

I think I will get that XPS or maybe the Spectre. And then, wait for the SB4 or maybe for a fix on SB3, in case I miss it so much.

I will be lurking around here.

Kind regards to everybody. It was an exciting month for me.

    Happy New Year everyone.

Should we have a sweepstake to guess if Microsoft will fix this issue and if so when?
