Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.  

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

    So I can consistently create and remedy the error by disabling the Bluetooth adapter in the device manager. 

    Are you talking about the Intel Wireless Bluetooth(R)?

    If so, I disabled it and I still see stutter, not as bad but still there.

    This has worked GREAT for me I am now working on 10+ hours without an error. I am currently dealing with MS and have told them what worked for me. Of course, they want to replace it. 

    So what is your exact setup?

    [update] - I got the error about five minutes after writing the previous comment. It only happened once and I don't really know if it was the same error but the keyboard just went crazy and typed a letter like 500 times. It is still WAY less problematic. I should note that I also added a USB extension cord and placed the dongle close to the keyboard and Mouse.

    I've tried all the suggested ideas here, but...

    the only real and reliable solution that's been working for weeks now is (to me) to keep the CPU busy.

    As in, having bluestacks run minimized in the background or like others mentioned Folding@Home

    No idea how this could be related to any bluetooth device/ connection or cable extension.

    Maybe there's more than just 1 issue - wouldn't surprise me anymore.

    At least Microsoft is consistent in keeping this under the radar and contained.

    Sad, sad times.

    Can't wait to see what the surface book 4 will bring to light some day.

    Firstly, was it the Intel Wireless Bluetooth(R)?

    My setup:

    • SB3 13.5 i7 1TB;
    • Dock 1 and connected to Dock:
      • Dell P2314T 1920x1080 touch via mini DP and USB for touch on dock;
      • USB -> Gigabit ASIX for internal subnet;
      • USB -> Gigabit Realtek for second internal subnet;
      • Dock Ethernet port for Internet
      • USB for HID Keyboard/Mouse
      • USB3 hub for various USB devices

    USB devices may include one or more of each of the following:

    • Arduino
    • Salaea Logic analyser
    • FTDI Serial converter
    • Other microcontroller dev boards such as ST Nucleo

    The stutter is much worse when I have data being captured from development targets (Arduino, Nucleo etc.) over USB to the point that I use a slow old desktop instead of the SB3.

    If I replace the SB3 with my old Surface Laptop there is absolutely no stutter.

    The missing or repeated characters are due to keystrokes being dropped.  Windows expected a downcode for a key and then an upcode when it is released.  If the downcode is missing you miss a key and if you drop an upcode then Windows thinks the key is being held down and it will autorepeat that key until another key is pressed, particularly nasty if the key you pressed was backspace.

    Mouse packets may also be lost in stutter meaning the mouse stops or the window continues to be dragged after you though you had dropped it.
