Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have a video of the mouse re I continuously move the mouse in a circle

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

A fix for this issue is now available through Windows Update. Please review the Surface Book 3 Update History page.

The issues have restarted! It was good for a week or so, then started to disconnect once a day. And now it disconnects every few minutes... Disapointed.

    What exactly are your issues?

    • stutter
    • delay in keyboard/mouse
    • USB devices unloading/loading
    • CPU speed dropping and running like treacle
    • Windows Explorer not responding
    • something else

I wanted to give it a few weeks after updating, but I too can confirm that this release FINALLY resolves the bulk of the issues I have been having on my SB3, although I still have some minimal issues with intermittently losing external monitor output through the Surface Dock 2, supposed overheating when restarting the laptop, and occasional GPU(?) throttling that requires a reboot to get rid of. I would hope that these would be addressed eventually, but they pale in comparison, in nature and frequency, to the other disruptive issues that now appear to have been successfully addressed. I will be sure to provide updates should anything change. Over and out.

    Hi David,

These are the symptoms that I have.

    1. While working the CPU drops to 0.19GHz and then reverts to normal after a number of minutes or I have to force reboot.
    2. External screen goes black then recovers after a second or two
    3. Batteries only charged to 50% following Microsoft advice to limit battery charging
    4. Sometimes external screens have pixels misaligned in vertical bands
    5. Sometimes the second external screen refresh rate drops significantly to be perhaps once or twice a second
    6. Windows Explorer stops responding and I have to refresh or wait until it recovers

    Sound familiar?

    David
