Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.  

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

    There is a firmware or other low level problem so getting a replacement won't help.

    Microsoft will have based the design on an Intel reference platform (that's how everyone designs computers) but customised the UEFI and other settings.  It could be a chipset, power chips (they control the core voltages in the i7, other chip or settings.  You can bet Microsoft are in discussions with lots of suppliers.

    It's starting to feel like the only "solution" is to get rid of the surface book 3. I have a book 3, pro 6, surface go and my wife has a surface laptop. It's safe to say we're surface fans. I do believe that the book 3 will be my last surface device though. I never in a million years thought that I'd need to research if a computer can actually support a wired keyboard and/or mouse through it's USB ports before buying it.

    £2500 for a laptop in 2020 with a 4 core processor and a 1660ti is a bit of a joke, but atleast you know that.

    A £2500 laptop unable to support an external mouse or keyboard is beyond pathetic. Cannot see any option except returning the laptop and recommending everyone avoids purchasing any Microsoft product if they, month after release, still cannot produce basic drivers...

    There’s literally no solution for this issue (some people have managed temporary workarounds, but these get removed in further updates) and this has been a known issue since launch yet they still refuse to write some basic drivers. It's beyond belief and mindbogglingly stupid.
