Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have a video of the mouse re I continuously move the mouse in a circle

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

A fix for this issue is now available through Windows Update. Please review the Surface Book 3 Update History page.

Eddy.

I have the issue using a non surface dock. I'm using a pluggable brand USB type C dock. I haven't had any issues since using the handheld scientific BT-500 bluetooth adapter but for a $2000 or higher computer having a workaround for USB connectivity is complete trash, honestly if i paid $400 and couldn't use my USB ports I'd be quite upset. I wish I'd found this forum before purchasing it and before my return window expired rather than doing so many other troubleshooting steps. I wish i could just jump ship at this point since I'm not very hopeful in Microsoft caring enough to find a solution seeing as how it took them several months to even acknowledge this forum and when they did it was a single vague response that was marked as an answer.

I switched to bluetooth mouse and keyboard before I returned my SB3 and it did not work. Same problem as before. I spared no expense with the mouse and keyboard either but the problem was NOT resolved despite that being MS workaround. I think the problem is with Surface docks and the surface book. I did not have this problem with working with a small Kensington dock I was very temped to switch to a dell universal dock before I returned and if the SB3 had TB type c ports I would have just bought a different dock (dell wd19tb) but what is the point of having a 4k dockable device that won't support 4k when docked. I have had some small issues with the device that I switched to but they pale in comparison. If you are able I would jump ship.

Hi Eddy. I am glad that Microsoft is aware that this is an official issue now. I had my entire laptop replaced under warranty and even the new laptop is experiencing the same issue. I look forward to hearing back with a resolution. Thanks!

I have Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it appears to work.  I have two USB- Gigabit Ethernet converters, USB serial ports etc..

I have handheldsci BT-500 on the way across the pond as i need it to make my setup work.  I expect the real fix to take some time.

    David
