Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have a video of the mouse re I continuously move the mouse in a circle

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

A fix for this issue is now available through Windows Update. Please review the Surface Book 3 Update History page.

I saw the stutter when I had the PSU plugged in and charging. Now it is fully charged it seems much better.

I still haven't seen it when running from batteries.

Perhaps there is a problem in the charging?

If I connect the Dock to provide power (nothing other than power connected to the Dock) the stutter occurs.

Now running from battery and I will use PSU to charge when necessary.

Ok, I have what looks to be a setup that is not stuttering.  I have:

    • all USB connected via 7 port powered USB 3 hub connected directly to USB port on the SB3
    • Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub connected to SB3 with Ethernet and Monitor connected

I have a Nucleo64 dev board and FTDI on the USB3 hub and I'm sending data out on FTDI serial port.

There appears to be no stuttering.  I found that there was stutter if I had the screen and Ethernet via Dock so I moved them to the Travel hub and disconnected the Dock.

I will run this configuration for the rest of the day.
