Hi I-M-A,
Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.
I'm aware that when you use Google Maps on your Surface Pro X, the names and places disappear. I am here to help and let us work on this together. Allow me to ask some questions to help us isolate the issue.
- May I know what version of Windows are you currently running and its build version?
For the meantime, kindly try the following steps below.
Force the device to shut down and restart to clear hardware cache.
Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.
Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check any pending updates available including optional updates.
See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)
To check for updates: Go to Settings >> Windows updates >> Check for updates. Select advance options for view optional updates available.
Run the system file checker to check if there are corrupted system files that are just looping around causing this kind of issue to exist. See Using System File Checker in Windows - Microsoft Support.
If you are not zoomed in far enough, Google Maps may not display the names of places. Because Google Maps does not allow street labels to overlap, the space for the street name can only be sufficient if you zoom in very close.
Check that Google Maps has permission to view your location. You can do this by navigating to your browser's settings and checking the location permissions for Google Maps.
Update your browser.
Check to see if you are using the most recent version of your web browser.
Disable any conflicting extensions or add-ons.
Conflicting extensions or add-ons may cause problems with Google Maps. Disable any extensions or add-ons you may have installed.
Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter.
Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooter > Look for Windows Store Apps and select run right next to it.
Let me know how it goes.
Kind regards,
Lavenia
