Surface Go uefi version is 1.0.34 and No Bootable Device error

Recently receiving "No Bootable Device" error on Surface go running UEFI 1.0.34.

I've tried all the recovery disk options without success.

Have also noticed a few reddit threads with similar issues with this version in the last week or so

Anyone else seen this and managed to recover their device?

I have lodged multiple support tickets, confirmed there is no way for a user to roll back this firmware update.

I have also lodged a complaint here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoftfeedback

Edit: 11/7 - After 5-6 weeks I've finally been able to send it back and it's been a fee-free replacement. It has been a lot of back and forth and mentioning this thread with so many other instances of it.

Still waiting for someone to lodge this as a firmware issue.....and remove that version of the firmware from Microsoft site.

Same problem here, I installed an update last weekend, and keep getting "No bootable device" since then. I tried all possible recovery precedures, no luck. Surface Go, UEFI 1.0.34. MS seems to have messed it up quite a bit. I really hope my Surface will come back to life.

Just to list the steps I have tried which didn't solve the problem:

    • Create a recovery USB and recover from a drive (with and without keeping my files)
    • Using the "Startup Repair" option from the recovery drive
    • Via Command Line from recovery drive: Using bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • Via Command Line from recovery drive: Deleting the created system EFI partition, and recreating it with create partition efi size=100 and bcdboot C:\Windows /s S: /f ALL
    • Erasing the surface using the data eraser tool (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/microsoft-surface-data-eraser), and re-installing windows using the recovery drive
    • Changing the boot order in the BIOS (having each of the options "Internal Storage", "Windows Boot Manager" and "USB Storage" on top once)

If anyone has ANYTHING else I could try I would be happy to do so

Spent some time on chat with MS. Very helpful. Operator indicate it sounded like a firmware issue. I didnt have device available just looking to register issue.

Got sent some instructions on how to fix

They are the just the usb recovery instuctions cut and paste into an email!

I've requested another effort as this is well known not to work.

I even posted this forum into the chat operator said they read it!

    Hey InkyPhys,

I just talked to someone from the Surface Technical Lead and it's pretty much the same answer. If the recovery tool isn't working well we are out of luck. They put it as a "hardware issue" which makes no sense! I'm writing back an email to the same person hoping they will investigate further but it's sound like they are trying to make us replace our Surface for newer one. Really dissapointed in them!

    Here's the email :

We hope this email finds you well. This is Lynette, one of the Technical Leads from Microsoft Surface Support.
It has come to our attention that you are having issues with your Surface Go. All the troubleshooting steps have been duly performed and it is deemed to be a hardware issue already.

Reviewing your case, it appears that the warranty of the Surface Go has ended on June 19, 2020. With that being said, should you want to proceed with replacing your Surface Go, it will be tagged as an Out of Warranty replacement with additional costs.

While we understand how important it is for you to have a functioning device, we can only replace it through this method.

Aside from the Out of Warranty exchange, you may also check out our Microsoft Trade-In Program through this link: https://microsoft.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails
