Surface Go uefi version is 1.0.34 and No Bootable Device error

Recently receiving "No Bootable Device" error on Surface go running UEFI 1.0.34.

I've tried all the recovery disk options without success.

Have also noticed a few reddit threads with similar issues with this version in the last week or so

Anyone else seen this and managed to recover their device?

I have lodged multiple support tickets, confirmed there is no way for a user to roll back this firmware update.

I have also lodged a complaint here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoftfeedback

Edit: 11/7 - After 5-6 weeks I've finally been able to send it back and it's been a fee-free replacement. It has been a lot of back and forth and mentioning this thread with so many other instances of it.

Still waiting for someone to lodge this as a firmware issue.....and remove that version of the firmware from Microsoft site.

I've gone round in circles a few times all ending in them wanting me to pay for a replacement. I haven't heard anything since I asked them to confirm these steps actually roll back the firmware change as it was my understanding firmware changes required you to hand over the device.

    The last reply was:

"The case was already escalated that is why our Extended Support take over your case and the email they sent to you was the best resolution for their end. I can re-escalate the case, however, you will may receive the same resolution from them.

If the issue is a firmware or software, the troubleshooting steps can fix it. However, if all the steps are performed but still the issue remain, that's the time we can confirm that it's already a hardware issue.

Should you need further assistance, please contact us back by Phone or Online and we would be happy to help.

    Best regards,

    Dear Microsoft

It's a sad moment, but honestly we both knew it would happen one day. To make it short, it's time to say goodbye. We look back at many years we've spent together. From Windows 3.1 on, I worked with each Version of Windows, and I don't know how many hundred installations i did. Then I've been super excited when I installed the first Beta of the .net SDK 1.0, or when I downloaded all those fancy-named previews of SQL Server .net. I've built codezone.ch for you, the first swiss .net developer community. I still do carry with pride the orange bag from Tech.Ed 2004 at Amsterdam. And I introduced SharePoint (MOSS is how we called it back then) and Dynamics CRM at hundreds of clients. I even used Bing instead of google, which I think tells more about my loyalty than anything else. And until recently, edge was my default browser.

Now you broke my Surface go.

Well, we all make mistakes, but at least we should admit them, and try to fix things. That's what I so painfully miss here.

I did somehow feel it coming. Just recently I installed Debian on my old Thinkpad, I replaced OneDrive by Nectcloud, and if it wasn't for my wife, I would have replaced o365 by LibreOffice already. While all these solutions aren't any better or more comfortable than your stuffs, they have one advantage: The people behind them did not disappoint me the way you just did. So I will get rid of my last Microsoft products, together with my now unfortunately useless Surface Go, and move forward.

I honestly wish you all the best, and I do hope you will sooner or later learn to take your customers (as in where the money that pays your salary comes from) serious.

    Martin

P.S: Please, please don't suggest to use an usb recovery image, or the eraser tool. It won't fix neither my Surface nor our relationship.

    Hey InkyPhys,

I just talked to someone from the Surface Technical Lead and it's pretty much the same answer. If the recovery tool isn't working well we are out of luck. They put it as a "hardware issue" which makes no sense! I'm writing back an email to the same person hoping they will investigate further but it's sound like they are trying to make us replace our Surface for newer one. Really dissapointed in them!

    Here's the email :

We hope this email finds you well. This is Lynette, one of the Technical Leads from Microsoft Surface Support.
It has come to our attention that you are having issues with your Surface Go. All the troubleshooting steps have been duly performed and it is deemed to be a hardware issue already.

Reviewing your case, it appears that the warranty of the Surface Go has ended on June 19, 2020. With that being said, should you want to proceed with replacing your Surface Go, it will be tagged as an Out of Warranty replacement with additional costs.

While we understand how important it is for you to have a functioning device, we can only replace it through this method.

You may refer to the Surface Warranty Terms and Conditions found on this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/warranties-extended-service-plans-and-terms-conditions-for-your-device-eedf7a23-84a7-1a47-480b-0e10503eedf5

Aside from the Out of Warranty exchange, you may also check out our Microsoft Trade-In Program through this link: https://microsoft.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails

The Microsoft Store Trade-in Program powered by CExchange lets you trade in an eligible used device for rebate after purchasing a qualifying device from Microsoft Store. For more information about the Trade-In Program, you can contact CExchange Customer Service:

    Phone: 1-800-351-6864 (8am–5pm CT).

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Surface. Please take care and stay healthy in these trying times.Service Request #: 1039765958Best Regards,**Lynette E.**Microsoft Surface SupportSchedule: Monday - Sunday, 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. CST

Spent some time on chat with MS. Very helpful. Operator indicate it sounded like a firmware issue. I didnt have device available just looking to register issue.

Got sent some instructions on how to fix

They are the just the usb recovery instuctions cut and paste into an email!

I've requested another effort as this is well known not to work.

I even posted this forum into the chat operator said they read it!
