Surface Go uefi version is 1.0.34 and No Bootable Device error

Recently receiving "No Bootable Device" error on Surface go running UEFI 1.0.34.

I've tried all the recovery disk options without success.

Have also noticed a few reddit threads with similar issues with this version in the last week or so

Anyone else seen this and managed to recover their device?

I have lodged multiple support tickets, confirmed there is no way for a user to roll back this firmware update.

I have also lodged a complaint here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoftfeedback

Edit: 11/7 - After 5-6 weeks I've finally been able to send it back and it's been a fee-free replacement. It has been a lot of back and forth and mentioning this thread with so many other instances of it.

Still waiting for someone to lodge this as a firmware issue.....and remove that version of the firmware from Microsoft site.

The update from Microsoft seems to brick my device, too. I see a lot of people having the same issue:

    5. (2) PSA: Do not take UEFI update 1.0.34 for Surface Go. It bricks your device. Error no bootable device. Reported by lots of users not acknowledged by MS so far. : SurfaceGo (reddit.com)

    7. No Bootable Device - **** do I do now? : SurfaceGo (reddit.com)

My 4GB eMMC device has the same problem with firmware 1.0.34.0. Here's what I tried with no avail:

    1. Install Ubuntu along with Windows, failed because the installer needed Bitlocker key (which I don't have)
    2. Recover using recovery USB, failed
    3. Install fresh windows with wiping disk contents. Installation finished, but after reboot issue persists
    4. Install fresh Ubuntu. Installed, but issue persists.

The support response from Microsoft is just... aggravating. No acknowledgement of the problem? No compensation for what they did to people's devices?

I just posted an FYI over on Linus tech tips. Eventually, someone at Microsoft will do something, it is absolutely a screwup by whoever does their firmware.

Good idea with Paul Thurrott didn’t think of that. I’ll try to talk to Scott Hanselman he might be able to give us a name or two to talk to.

Totally - but so far all of us seem stonewalled.

It's been over a month and Microsoft is still pushing out this firmware update 1.0.34.0 to baseline Surface Go 1's.

Microsoft appears to know there is a problem but has not pulled the firmware update as of yet. IMO this problem can be reversed with a firmware patch. Of course, it's going to be tricky for some since USB-C flash drives are not that commonplace yet.

One site just posted this but it needs to get some attention on mainstream forums if it's going to get attention at Microsoft.

I'm going to post in the forums at Tom's hardware in the laptop section. Perhaps an email to Mr. Leo Laporte or Mr. Paul Thurrott might get some notice.
