Surface Go uefi version is 1.0.34 and No Bootable Device error

Recently receiving "No Bootable Device" error on Surface go running UEFI 1.0.34.

I've tried all the recovery disk options without success.

Have also noticed a few reddit threads with similar issues with this version in the last week or so

Anyone else seen this and managed to recover their device?

I have lodged multiple support tickets, confirmed there is no way for a user to roll back this firmware update.

I have also lodged a complaint here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoftfeedback

Edit: 11/7 - After 5-6 weeks I've finally been able to send it back and it's been a fee-free replacement. It has been a lot of back and forth and mentioning this thread with so many other instances of it.

Still waiting for someone to lodge this as a firmware issue.....and remove that version of the firmware from Microsoft site.

After some 6 weeks and 4 separate attempts I am pleased to report that today I have been successful with MS Support. This was achieved through the Surface Go support chat service. They didn't even ask me for the photo of the UEFI screen. They acknowledged in black and white that the firmware update was their error and so they are replacing devices free of charge, outside of my warranty.

I feel sympathetic for anyone else that is still struggling so I will share what I can in case this will help you.

Firstly I made sure I was on the MS Surface Go support - you can check this by looking at the URL. This is the page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-go  scroll down the page and click on Contact Us. I put in my issue as "Surface Go bricked after 1.0.34 update". I also did something different this time to the other tickerts - I selected "Hardware issue" on the drop down rather than "Technical support".

As others have reported here, it does seem they a have process in place now:

    1. They acknowledge the firmware caused devices to break
    2. They offer a free replacement and ask if you want to proceed with that
    3. They escalate the issue to the Hardware Team - and I think this may be the key point - Hardware not Tech Support
    4. Ask for your address etc
    5. Process it
    6. Tell you you will receive a confirmation email with the return label within 24 hours to send back your machine with.
    7. Once they receive the broken device they will ship you a replacement.

The agent was very helpful, and apologetic and he said he had seen my previous unanswered emails and support tickets. So it seems that they either have finally got a solution is place and or they respond to you being persistent.

Here is the screenshot of the chat that I hope will help and encourage everyone else who is still trying to get a replacement.

I tried this same thing with my surface and was told that my chat agent wasn't able to send out anything and had to follow what Ms had told them and said the only thing I could do was take it to a tech shop or pay the £250 for a replacement, any suggestions?

Well done on the result ! I've now followed your guidance to reach Microsoft Support, and they have acknowledged the issue of the "no bootable disc". They have taken my contact details, address, email, phone, etc, and will send me further instruction via email. Although this issue should not have occured, and it has taken MS some time to acknowledge the issue is widespread, at least they are now responding positively. Anybody in a similar situation, simply follow the guidance supplied in the post above, and good luck with your claims.

UPDATE.....pre-paid ddress label now received from MS. Sending to them tomorrow. Will keep everyone up to date.

Thank you very much for your reply. Using your link I was able to reach the technical support and they escaladed the issue right after i was uploading a video with the problem with my surface ('No bootable device') and with the bad version of UEFI. I will need to wait 2 bussiness day's and after that they will send me an email with further instruction about a replacement. I will keep you updated.

That is terrible! This is turning out to be a nightmare for a lot of people worldwide. There was a commenter in Ukraine who had no means of returning his device…Many people including myself that work abroad would have to incur the cost of shipping the item back to Microsoft outside of the US. The problem twofold, the 1. The firmware and 2. the widespread effects. Neither of which Microsoft is handling properly because they don’t want to admit liability. I smell a class action lawsuit…
